4 Things to Keep You Going When Stress Strikes

With the holidays approaching fast, I look forward to spending quality time with family and friends.  However, the holiday season can be stressful at times, too.  I know, for me, when I am feeling stressed in any area of my life, it is nearly impossible for that stress to not affect my motivation at work.

What I DO know, is that people are always watching to how you respond and react in difficult situations.  Your true character reveals itself when dealing with stress.

“Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it.” ~Charles Swindoll

Here are 4 things to keep you going when stress strikes:

1.    Shift gears with positive thoughts.  You may not be able to control your thoughts, but you can monitor them.  If you find yourself feeling irritated or thinking negatively, change it something positive!  Instead of “I don’t want to be here today”, tell yourself “How can I be an inspiration for others today?

2.    Meditate!  Waking up 10 minutes earlier in the morning and having some quiet time before the hustle and bustle of the day begins, makes a REVOLUTIONARY difference in the rest of the day.  A prepared mind doesn’t sway easily in its reaction to stress.

3.    Get PUMPED!  Listen to something that makes you feel good on your way to work…perhaps a song that motivates you or an inspirational CD.

4.    It is what it is.  Acceptance is key here.  If there are situations at work that are too demanding or unrealistically expected, take responsibility and BE the change!  Start seeking out positive solutions to seemingly negative situations.

You can be an encouraging, supportive, and motivational force at work no matter how stressful life gets.  Don’t forget to laugh at it all!  People will pick up on your positive response to stress and, in turn, the entire energy of the office can change.

After all, you never know WHO is watching!  Be the change.

Have an amazing week!  Unless, of course, you have other plans.
